Mathematics talk
Professor Eckart Robert Schulz is an Associate Professor in Mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences and Geo-informatics, Institute of Science, Suranaree University of Technology (SUT), Thailand. He holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics (1990) and an M.Sc. in Mathematics (1984) from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. With over three decades of academic experience in Thailand, including previous positions at Khon Kaen University and SUT since 1993, his research interests span Functional Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, and Data Science. He has an extensive publication record in areas such as differential equations, wavelet analysis, group theory, stochastic processes, and more recently, machine learning applications in medical diagnosis and engineering. Professor Schulz is also a recognized editor of several conference proceedings and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), reflecting his commitment to teaching excellence.
The Science and Humanities Department recently had the privilege of hosting a highly insightful and eye-opening talk by Professor Eckart Schulz from Suranaree university of Technology, Thialand, titled “Introduction of mathematics concepts in Machine learning.”
During the session, Professor Schulz enlightened us with the foundational mathematical models that drive modern machine learning, including:
K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN)
Decision Tree Classification
Random Forest Classification
Linear Regression
Logistic Regression
Support vector machines (SVMS)
Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)
The talk provided mathematics lectures under science and humanities department with renewed prespactive on how core mathematical principles are directly applied in cutting-edge computational techniques. We extend our sincere gratitude to professor Schulz for his engaging presentation and for sharing his vast knowledge so generously. We also thank the coordinators for their excellent organization of this events, and we look forward to learning more form professor Schulz in the future.
